Just keep swimming…

I just finished watching Finding Nemo for possibly the 50th time.  Yes, even after I put my kids to bed tonight I realized I was still watching it.  Everyone has their “go-to” movie.  The movie that makes them feel better.  I love the message that Dory provides…you guessed it.  Say it with me:

You know what you have to do…just keep swimming.  I’m not sure why this is one of the hardest things to do when we feel like Marlin.  “I don’t want to know what I have to do.”  Yes.  I know.  You already know it.  The problem always lies deep within ourselves.  We see a huge ocean before us just as Marlin does.  We see a problem that when we get lost along the way, we don’t know how we are going to continue.  Dory is the true hero of this movie because without her confidence and encouragement, Marlin would have given up at the first sign of trouble.  As it is, he doubts his friend several times.  We have all been there.  We might even have people telling us to give up.  You will not make a difference.  I actually have been told that in my life.  It is sad to think that some people truly believe one person cannot make a difference.  I would quote Ghandi here, but I have another quote in mind for tonight.  I will continue practicing Satyagraha in my own way.  One person can and does make a difference.

“Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising which tempt you to believe that your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to an end requires courage.”

~Ralph Waldo Emerson
