Hope is Always Available to You: Here’s How to Find It.

So today I recorded the content of my monthly online Club for your soul and as I was thinking about hope, digging into it, and getting really deep with it, it occurred to me that some people think hope is not an option that is available to them.  I wanted to actually help those folks out there who don’t know that it really is available at all times.

When I was in my greatest pain for 24/7, around 5 years straight, I thought that I could easily see why people decided to give up the fight.  That is not suicidal…it is logical thinking.  I could see why people lost battles with pain.  Physical and mental pain.  It didn’t mean I was okay with it, but I started to understand what that loss of hope did to a person’s mental state as I came very close to it myself.  Now, being raised Christian, a thought did come to me in my longest hours about having faith the size of a mustard seed and then I went on to think about how hope grows out of that.  But hope and faith are available to everyone in their greatest need no matter your religion or beliefs.

How can some people seem to hang on no matter what?

  1. You are not the victim.  This one is very hard for lots of people.  We get so entrenched in our past and our stories, that we can’t seem to find a way out.  I teach a method of journaling that helps people find a way out of their past programming.  What I would like for you to do right now is to journal as if you have that thing you want all week long.  Write about it, describe it in great detail, give thanks for it and how it makes you feel.  For me, it was simply to wake up one day and be free of pain.  And it happened.
  2. Allow others to lift you up.  Do you push others away if they have a way that can help you?  Be very careful here, because eventually you might succeed in pushing them far enough away that they don’t try again.  try to step back and pause before you get upset at their help.
  3. Lift others up.  We rise by lifting others is actually true. You find hope the same way you find happiness. You give it to someone else and borrow a little of it back. ~Robert Brault
  4. Watch your words.  You might think they are harmless, but if you could see the imprint they leave on your skin like bruises, you would be surprised.  Words have the power to change a person.  If you were not given enough nurturing words as a child, it is possible that is a pattern you need to break now that might be causing you to leak Hope like a boat with a hole.  Plug that up with goodness.  I want you to read this if you aren’t sure about the power of words.  In that article, the authors of a new book write: “a single word has the power to influence the expression of genes that regulate physical and emotional stress.”
  5. Listen to feel good music and meditate.  Keep up the power of good thoughts producing good moods by changing what you are thinking and paying attention to how you are being in your body.  What are you thinking and what reaction is the body having?  Change your thoughts to things that give you hope.  In fact, make a list of those things and keep it handy on tough days.

The bottom line is that we have more power than we imagine and much more than we give ourselves credit for.
