How to make moon water (and why)…
Moon water is a popular concept in certain spiritual and holistic practices. The idea is to capture the energy and essence of the moon by placing water in a container under the moonlight. While there might not be physical evidence of the benefits of moon water, there is plenty of research on the moon and how people behave during certain moon phases.
How to Make Moon Water:
- Choose a Container: Select a clean and preferably glass container to hold the water. Glass is often preferred as it doesn’t interfere with the energy transfer.
- Select the Right Night: Moon water is typically made during a full moon, as it is believed to be the peak of lunar energy. However, some traditions also make moon water during different moon phases for specific purposes.
- Set Intentions: Before placing the water under the moonlight, set positive intentions or affirmations for the water. This can enhance the energetic qualities you wish to infuse into the water.
- Place the Container: Put the container of water in a location where it can be exposed to the moonlight. It could be on a windowsill, balcony, or directly outdoors.
- Retrieve in the Morning: The next morning, collect the water. Some believe that sunlight may diminish the moon’s energy, so it’s recommended to retrieve the water before direct sunlight exposure.
Why Make Moon Water:
- Energetic Cleansing: Moon water is thought to carry the pure and cleansing energy of the moon. It can be used for spiritual or energetic cleansing of oneself or objects such as gemstones.
- Enhancing Intentions: The process of setting intentions while making moon water allows you to infuse the water with positive energy, making it a powerful tool for manifesting goals.
- Rituals and Ceremonies: Moon water is often used in various rituals and ceremonies in different spiritual practices. It can be sprinkled or used as an offering to enhance the energy of the space.
- Connecting with Nature: For some, making moon water is a way to connect with nature and the celestial cycles. It’s a practice that fosters mindfulness and a sense of harmony with the natural world.
- Water your plants: Moon water can be used in a ritual to help keep plants healthy and happy as you practice speaking mantras, or affirmations, out loud.
-
Purify and cleanse your home with Moon water: Cleansing your sacred space is important. No spiritual work can be done in an environment full of stagnant/cluttered/dusty energy.
- Make sure to clean your house physically with a mop/sponge as you normally would and add some Moon water to your bucket.
- You can also just sprinkle the water with your fingers or a spray bottle wherever you want to clean and bless the space.
- One step further is to combine the water with herbs or essential oils to spread positive energy.
Remember, the benefits of moon water are often based on personal beliefs and spirituality. Whether you follow a specific tradition or simply enjoy the ritual, making moon water can be a meaningful and intentional practice that dates back to the 1800’s. In Ayurveda, purifying things like water, milk, and ghee by the moon has been a practiced tradition for centuries.
